CE-34878-0
Game/Application Crash - Destiny 2, Minecraft & More Games
⚠️ Important Warning
Apply these solutions with caution.
Refer to official manufacturer website for authoritative information. For reference only.
Official Solution
Update PS4 system software & the affected game/application to latest versions.
Restart the PS4.
If a PlayStation Camera is connected: unplug it → restart → Settings › Login Settings › disable Enable Face Recognition.
If you replaced the internal HDD, re-install the original drive.
If the issue continues: Back up data → initialize PS4 (Settings › Initialization). This erases local data.
Common Symptoms
- Game quits to blue screen with message "An error has occurred in the following application. (CE-34878-0)" when launching or mid-play
- Repeats after recent game patch or firmware update
- Occurs across multiple titles—often points to data corruption or storage problem
- Some users see higher crash frequency in heavily updated "live service" games (Destiny 2, FO4 mods, etc.)
Hardware Information
CE-34878-0 is fundamentally an application crash code, but persistent recurrence can signal deeper storage corruption or failing internal HDD/SSD, especially on aging PS4 units.
Improperly seated / failing internal drive reported in community threads.
Data fragmentation / corruption often resolved by Rebuild Database in Safe Mode.
Peripheral conflicts (PlayStation Camera / Face Recognition) have triggered repeat crashes for some users.
Components
- • Internal HDD / SSD
- • PlayStation Camera (conflict)
Tools
- • USB drive for backup
- • Phillips screwdriver (drive reseat)

IntermediateStep-by-Step Solutions
Update Game & System Software
Settings › System Software Update; highlight game › Options › Check for Update. Install all pending patches.
Full Restart / Power Cycle
Shut down (not Rest Mode) → unplug power 1 min → replug & boot. Clears cache/glitches.
Disconnect PS Camera & Disable Face Recognition
Unplug camera → Settings › Login Settings › disable Enable Face Recognition.
Rebuild Database (Safe Mode)
Power off → hold power ~7 sec until 2nd beep → connect controller via USB → Safe Mode Option "Rebuild Database." Non-destructive; reorganizes file system.
Restore Licenses & Reinstall Affected Game
Account Management › Restore Licenses; then delete & reinstall the crashing title (backup saves first).
Reseat / Replace Internal Drive
Power down; reseat original HDD/SSD; if upgraded, try re-installing original drive. Check SMART health on PC if possible.
Initialize PS4 (Factory Reset)
Backup saves → Settings › Initialization › Initialize PS4 (Full). Reinstall games.
