Wi-Fi Connection Failed
⚠️ Important Warning
Apply these solutions with caution.
Refer to official manufacturer website for authoritative information. For reference only.
Official Solution
The PS4 was unable to connect to the Wi-Fi network. This may be because the Wi-Fi password is incorrect or the wireless network signal is weak.
Please verify your password and move the console closer to the router. If the issue persists, the network's configuration may be preventing connection.
Common Symptoms
- The console fails to connect to a Wi-Fi network, even when the correct password is entered.
- The connection test fails at the 'Internet Connection' step, but succeeds at 'Obtain IP Address'.
- Other devices like your phone or PC can connect to the same Wi-Fi network without any issues.
- The error appears after changing your router or internet service provider.
Hardware Information
This is a network configuration error, not a PS4 hardware fault. The problem lies in the communication handshake between the PS4 and your router, often related to Wi-Fi frequency bands or DNS resolution.

BeginnerStep-by-Step Solutions
The PS4's Wi-Fi chip can sometimes be unstable on 5 GHz networks. Forcing your router to broadcast a dedicated 2.4 GHz network and connecting your PS4 to that can often provide a more stable connection.
Restart Your Console and Network Hardware
First, fully restart your PS4 console. Then, unplug your modem and router from the power source for at least 60 seconds. Plug them back in and wait for them to fully boot up before attempting to connect again.
Re-enter the Wi-Fi Password
Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi > Easy. Select your network and carefully re-enter the password to ensure there were no typos.
Change DNS Settings Manually
During the 'Set Up Internet Connection' process, choose 'Custom' instead of 'Easy'. Select your Wi-Fi network, choose 'Automatic' for IP Address Settings, 'Do Not Specify' for DHCP Host Name, and then 'Manual' for DNS Settings. Set Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.
Force Connection to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Band
Log into your router's admin settings. Many modern routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands under one name. Find the option to separate them or create a dedicated 'Guest' network that only uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. Connect your PS4 to this network.
