Cannot Connect to Server (System Update)
⚠️ Important Warning
Apply these solutions with caution.
Refer to official manufacturer website for authoritative information. For reference only.
Official Solution
There was a problem connecting to the server while trying to download a system software update. Your console's internet connection may be unstable or PlayStation Network services may be temporarily busy.
Please check the PSN status page. If there are no issues, restart your console and try the update again. If it continues to fail, you can update the system software using a USB drive.
Common Symptoms
- The system software update fails during the download phase with error CE-107928-7.
- A message appears stating 'Connection to the server was lost' or 'Cannot connect to the server'.
- The error frequently occurs during the release of a major, popular system update when servers are under heavy load.
- Your general internet connection seems fine, but the update download will not start or complete.
Hardware Information
This is a pure network communication error, not a hardware fault. The problem lies between your console and the PSN update servers, caused by either server-side congestion, a local network glitch, or a DNS resolution issue.

IntermediateStep-by-Step Solutions
This error is often due to congested PlayStation servers. The first and most important step is always to check the official PSN status page. If the servers are down, no amount of troubleshooting will work.
Check PlayStation Network Status
Before anything else, visit status.playstation.com. Check the status of 'PSN account management' and 'Game and social'. If they are not green, you must wait for Sony to fix the issue.
Restart Your Router and PS5
Unplug your router and modem from power for at least 60 seconds. During this time, fully restart your PS5 console from the Power Menu. Once your network is back online, try the update again.
Change DNS Settings
Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Choose your network, select 'Advanced Settings', and change DNS to 'Manual'. Set Primary to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary to 8.8.4.4. This can improve connection stability to update servers.
Update Using a USB Drive
This is the most reliable workaround. On a PC, go to the official PlayStation website and download the latest PS5 update file. Save it to a USB drive (formatted as FAT32 or exFAT) inside a folder path: PS5/UPDATE/PS5UPDATE.PUP. Boot the PS5 into Safe Mode (hold power until 2nd beep) and select option 3: 'Update System Software'.
